Sean, what makes you say the last classic car was made in 1948? I don't mean to be rude, I just don't understand. I know in most states 25 years makes a car a classic, also called an antique.
My experience with reliable classic cars from the 1960's is limited to my own, however, I have had fantastic luck with GM cars. I have had several Mercedes from the 60s which were all terribly unreliable. My 1969 GMC pickup with a 302 V8 was very trustworthy. The most reliable car I have ever owned is my 1963 Buick LeSabre. It can take a while to warm up but with a 409 V8 I would not expect anything else!

I don't think that high performance cars & cars with fuel injection & multiple carbs were reliable. I rembember some buddies that were always trying to get their carb set ups to work properly or transmissions that needed repairing. The reliable cars were the six cylinder automatics.... not very sexy.

The Thunderbirds from 1960 - 1967 that started the 4 passenger Sports Coupes from Oldsmobile, Buick, etc. with the introduction in 1958 of the first large T-Bird.
